Start here

Appointed Times helps you place events in chronological order. The current starter collection contains 38 original prompts across Bible history, The Bible’s journey and Modern milestones. Grand timeline combines the decks. The content is undergoing human chronology review before the first store release.

  1. Open Discover and choose Play today’s timeline, or choose another solo mode.
  2. Read the new card and compare it with the events already on the timeline.
  3. Tap a placement gap, or drag the card to the gap where you think it belongs.
  4. Read the correction and continue. Tap placed cards or Study more links to explore sources.

Read the timeline

The timeline wraps across rows in a snake pattern. Follow its arrows rather than assuming every row reads left to right. BCE years count down toward 1 BCE, followed by 1 CE; there is no year zero. “c.” means approximately, and a date range represents an interval. Dates follow the linked reference chronology and are not a claim of universal historical agreement.

When a placement is wrong, the app inserts the card into its corrected position. Touch targets also work with mouse or keyboard: Tab to a gap and activate it with Enter or Space. Dragging is optional.

Choose a mode

For modes that offer deck or difficulty choices, select them before starting. Each mode keeps a separate unfinished round.

Scores and discoveries

A correct solo placement earns 100 points. A streak of three or four earns 150 points per correct placement; five or more earns 200. A miss resets the streak. The result screen lets you review the round and share a summary.

Your local statistics track rounds, best score, accuracy and discovered cards. Discover’s View collection opens searchable cards and source links. Reopening a completed daily round does not add its score twice.

Save and resume

Placements save automatically. Return to Discover to resume an unfinished round. Wait for the saved indication before closing the app. If storage is unavailable, a save may fail; check available device storage and avoid clearing app data.

Progress is local to this app installation. There is no account synchronization. Device backups may restore data depending on platform settings, but are not a substitute for an in-app export feature. Clearing storage or deleting the app can remove your progress.

Play Together

Solo works offline. Play Together needs an internet connection and a reachable room service. The current native build requires a custom HTTPS service address in Settings. Every participating device must use the same service. No service subscription or automatic production connection is included in this build.

  1. In Settings, enter the room service’s HTTPS address and select Save connection.
  2. Open Together. The host chooses rounds, deck, difficulty and seconds per card, then starts a room.
  3. Players open the invitation link or enter the room code and a nickname. A phone camera can read the invitation QR code; there is no in-app camera scanner.
  4. The host starts when everyone is ready. Each player chooses a placement before the timer expires; the first submitted answer is final.
  5. Everyone sees the reveal together. Correct answers earn 100 points plus up to 50 speed bonus points. The host advances the round.

The host controls the game and uses a separate player device to compete. Up to 20 players can join. The shared board is read-only and can run in a TV browser or on a computer connected to a display. Native AirPlay separate-screen rendering is not included.

Reopen the room on the same browser/device to reconnect while its session remains stored. Rooms expire four hours after creation. Closing the room ends play. Nicknames and results are visible to the room: use a non-identifying nickname. Read the privacy policy before using a custom service.

Appearance and accessibility

Open the gear button for Settings. Choose dark or light appearance and enable Larger text. The app follows the device’s reduced-motion preference. Tablets and unfolded devices show a wider layout; rotate the device to choose a comfortable arrangement. Source websites have their own accessibility controls.

Sources and independence

Study more opens the reference publisher’s website and requires internet access. This app ships original prompts, citations and links, not publication text, pictures, audio or Bible quotations. Appointed Times is independent and is not an official JW.org app. Automatic routing into JW Library is not included.
