FW Planner
User Manual

Prepare a family worship plan, read your publications, and keep notes and recordings on your device.

Under review before public release. Preparing for private testing on Apple and Google Play. Availability is limited to invited testers when a test build is available.

1. Get started

  1. Install the private build using the invitation supplied for Apple TestFlight or Google Play. Use the account that received access.
  2. Open FW Planner and complete the welcome/setup screens. No NSF Labs account is required.
  3. Open Settings → Family Profile and add the household details you want to use for planning. You can return later to change them.
  4. Open Settings → AI Models. Follow the device compatibility message, then download the offered Gemma model if you want AI agendas and summaries. Use a reliable connection and allow several gigabytes of free storage for the download and processing.
  5. Import your own EPUBs into Library, including the Daily Text and current meeting documents if you use those features.
  6. Open This Week and generate an agenda. Review it before saving, sharing, or adding it to a calendar.

This is an independent NSF Labs application. It is not an official app of, or endorsed by, Jehovah’s Witnesses or the publishers of linked material. Obtain publications from their authorized sources and use only material you are permitted to import or record.

2. Devices and offline use

The Android build requires Android 12 or later and ARM64 hardware. Local AI is enabled only on specifically supported combinations of device model, chipset, and memory. A supported Android version or a similar phone name does not by itself establish AI compatibility. The app’s compatibility result is the authority for your device.

The Apple app targets iOS/iPadOS 17 or later; local AI also depends on hardware and model availability. Audio transcription specifically requires iOS/iPadOS 26 or later and supported Apple speech recognition. Earlier versions can lack transcription even if the app installs.

Downloaded publications and supported local AI can be used without an internet connection once setup is complete. Initial model and speech-asset downloads, external articles/videos, network reading voices, support email, and sharing through online services may still need connectivity. Use a downloaded offline system voice if offline reading matters.

4. Set up your family profile

In Settings → Family Profile, create or edit your household and members. Fill in the names or nicknames, ages, reading preferences, interests, spiritual goals, and personal considerations you actually want used for personalization. Check the family head and meeting/worship schedule where offered, then save.

Choose a priority focus or enter a custom subject when preparing an agenda. Suggestions help match a subject to the available catalog; review the choice before generating. You can change your focus for a later session.

Family information can be sensitive. A parent or guardian should manage children’s details. You do not need to fill every optional field to use the app.

5. Import and organize EPUBs

  1. Save an EPUB from its authorized source to your device or a location available in the system file picker.
  2. Open Library, tap Import, and select the file. Wait for import to finish.
  3. Choose a folder when offered, or leave the book in the main library. Use the item menu to rename, move, or delete a book.
  4. For the Daily Text feature, import the appropriate EPUB into the Daily Text folder.
  5. For meeting preparation, import the current Workbook and Watchtower Study Edition through Meeting Documents. Verify the detected publication, week, and subject before relying on them.

Cloud-backed files may need downloading through Files or your provider first. The app does not supply the full publications. An unavailable week may need a newer EPUB or a corrected week selection.

6. Read, listen, and bookmark

Open an imported EPUB to read it. Use its table of contents to move between chapters and the reader settings to adjust typography. Use bookmarks to return to passages; Settings → My Bookmarks collects saved bookmarks.

Start Read Aloud with the reader’s playback control. Use the player controls to pause, resume, and move through the text. Sentence highlighting follows the reading position where supported. Choose a voice under Settings → Reading Voice; voice availability depends on your operating system and installed speech engines.

Read-aloud text is passed to your configured speech engine. Some voices need a network connection. If playback is silent, check media volume, the selected voice, Bluetooth output, and whether the voice has finished downloading.

7. Create and review a worship agenda

  1. Open This Week or the FW Agenda shortcut on Home.
  2. Check the selected week, meeting documents, family profile, and priority focus.
  3. Tap Generate Agenda or Generate Worship Agenda, as shown on your screen. The local Gemma model must be ready for AI-enhanced generation. A quick agenda can be offered when AI is unavailable.
  4. Wait for the progress indicator to finish. Keep the app open during generation.
  5. Read each discussion point and its source references. Use the alternatives offered to replace a suggested resource where appropriate.
  6. Use the resulting agenda’s export or calendar controls to keep or share the plan.

The catalog avoids recently used resources where possible, including a 90-day selection window. This does not automatically delete your saved history. Missing meeting material can limit the context available for a plan.

Generated text is a draft. Check quotations, scripture references, dates, and source links yourself. AI can misunderstand or invent details; it does not replace the original publication or your judgment.

8. Write notes and import documents

Open Record → Notes to create or edit a written note. In Notes & Recordings, the upload control labeled Import PDF, Word, or text accepts PDF, Word (.docx), and TXT files. Select a file and check the imported text.

Text documents must be under 25 MB and within one million extracted characters. Save older .doc documents as .docx first. Image-only/scanned PDFs need OCR in another tool before import; FW Planner’s text import does not perform that OCR. Document formatting and complex layouts may not be preserved.

Where available, use the note summary or weekly-summary controls after the local AI model is ready. Always compare the result with your original notes.

9. Record and import audio

  1. Open Record → Recordings. Check microphone settings if you use an external input.
  2. Start a short recording and grant microphone permission when prompted. Confirm that the timer advances and the audio visualizer responds.
  3. Use the available pause/resume controls as needed, then stop to save. Play back the result before relying on the setup for a longer recording.
  4. Open the saved recording to review audio, transcript, and summary. Use the audio-import control to select an existing supported file; supported extensions are M4A, MP3, WAV, AAC, CAF, AIFF, and FLAC. On Apple devices the picker may show other files; unsupported selections are rejected after selection.

A recording may continue in the background, but phone calls, audio routing, battery restrictions, or the operating system can interrupt it. Check the recording after an interruption. Android shows an ongoing notification while recording. The microphone sensitivity display is not a guarantee of louder recorded audio.

Obtain appropriate permission before recording other people. Keep the microphone clear and close enough to the speakers.

10. Transcribe and summarize recordings

  1. Open a saved or imported recording and tap Transcribe Recording if it has no transcript. Follow any speech-model download or permission prompts.
  2. On Android, the Whisper model downloads when needed. On iOS/iPadOS 26+, Apple speech assets may download on first use. Check Settings for speech-engine readiness.
  3. Wait for the queued transcription to complete, then read and correct or account for recognition errors before using the text.
  4. Tap Generate Summary when a transcript and the local Gemma model are ready. Long recordings can take more time and use substantial memory and battery.
  5. Use the copy/export actions beside the transcript and summary, or Export Audio / Export All (Audio + Notes) when you need those files.

Speech recognition and summaries can mishear names, miss context, or assign the wrong meaning. Retain important source audio until you have checked the result. The app cannot recreate missing audio from a transcript.

11. Calendars, export, and sharing

Open Settings → Calendar Settings and choose the calendar to receive worship events. Grant calendar access if you want direct event creation. You can also use Settings → New Event or an agenda’s calendar action. Check the event’s date, time, duration, and destination calendar after saving.

Use the available PDF, Word, text, or calendar-file export choices for the item you are viewing. The operating system’s share sheet lets you choose a destination or recipient. Not every format is available for every item.

A Google, Apple, work, or shared calendar can synchronize your event and agenda details externally. Exported files and shared copies leave the app’s storage and follow the destination’s privacy settings. Check recipients and calendar visibility before sharing personal family information.

12. Appearance and model settings

Choose Light, Sepia, or Dark at the top of Settings. The app remembers the saved selection. Model setup shows download and readiness information; let it finish before starting generation. Use the model controls shown in your build to manage the installed model.

Settings → About shows the app version and build; tap the app information for version history. New private builds include links to this manual and the privacy policy in Settings.

13. Storage, deletion, and backups

Structured records are kept in a local encrypted database. Imported files, audio, exports, and temporary files are separate; they are not all separately encrypted by the app. Protect the device with a passcode and protect any copies you share.

Use the relevant item’s Delete control to remove books, notes, recordings, or profile information where available. To remove the app’s entire local container, clear storage through Android settings or choose Delete App on iOS/iPadOS. Apple’s Offload App retains documents and data. These operations can remove content you have not exported.

Original imported files, exports, calendar events, platform-managed speech assets, secure-storage items, and operating-system backups need separate management. Device backups may restore eligible app data. NSF Labs does not operate a cloud backup or recovery account for your local content.

Export important material before changing phones or test installations. A development install may use a different signature from a store build and may not update in place. Do not remove it before preserving anything you need.

14. Troubleshooting

15. Private testing and support

Send questions or feedback to [email protected]. Include FW Planner’s version/build, device model, operating-system version, what you expected, what happened, and the exact error. Remove private details from screenshots and send recordings or family information only when you deliberately intend to share them.

Apple TestFlight and Google Play manage invitations and test installations. Access depends on the selected tester account and a build being available; the public documentation is not an open invitation. TestFlight builds expire and may require an updated invitation or build.

Read the Privacy Policy for data handling, external services, deletion, support, and test-platform reporting. You can print this manual or save it as a PDF using your browser.
