Who we are

Skopos is published by NSF Labs LLC. Contact [email protected] for support, privacy questions, or support-data deletion requests. Skopos does not require an app account and does not include advertising or an analytics/crash-reporting service operated for NSF.

Location and data requests

With your permission, Skopos obtains your device location from iOS or Android location services, which may use GPS and other positioning signals. Depending on your device settings, this can be precise location (GPS latitude and longitude) or approximate/coarse location. Skopos uses it for core app functionality: positioning the sky view, finding nearby aircraft, showing local weather and alerts, and calculating launch visibility. Coordinates are sent directly to aircraft and weather providers to retrieve relevant results. These requests can contain precise coordinates; Skopos does not consistently reduce them to coarse location before sending them. Weather queries may include nearby sample points and points along a launch sightline. Map requests identify the area you view. A manual viewing location can also be sent to these services. NSF Labs uses this information to provide app features, not for advertising, marketing, or tracking you across other companies' apps and websites.

NSF does not operate a server that receives these location queries. Providers nevertheless receive the requests and network information such as your IP address, and may keep their own logs. Not having a Skopos account does not make these requests anonymous. You can decline or revoke device-location permission in device settings; location-dependent features may then be limited.

Skopos pauses new GPS tracking when the app is backgrounded. Active data views may continue refreshing the last viewed area while the app process remains running. Previously obtained locations can remain in caches; disabling GPS does not erase past provider requests or their logs.

Camera and orientation

The camera supplies the live background for the sky view. Skopos does not save camera photos or videos or upload the camera feed. Microphone access is not used. Orientation and compass readings position the sky overlay on your device. Nearby aircraft are retrieved from external aircraft-data services using a location and search radius; Skopos does not identify aircraft by scanning camera images. It does not build or transmit a scan, mesh, or detected surfaces of your surroundings. Camera permission is optional for features that do not use the live view.

External services

The following services receive network information as well as these request details:

adsb.lol: coordinates and radius for nearby aircraft.
Open-Meteo: observer/sample coordinates and times for conditions, cloud forecasts, and weather grids.
US National Weather Service: coordinates for weather alerts.
OpenStreetMap and CARTO: map areas, tiles, styles, and related resources. CARTO requests may include the app's basemap API key.
adsbdb and Planespotters.net: aircraft identifiers/callsigns for aircraft details, routes, and photographs.
CelesTrak: satellite/catalog requests.
The Space Devs: launch-data requests.
Open Notify: crew-information requests.
Wikipedia/Wikimedia: astronaut biography requests and associated images.
Solar System OpenData: selected celestial-body identifiers.

Provider responses can refer to images or resources on other hosts. External webcasts, websites, and the Buy Me a Coffee link are handled by their own providers. Providers control their own retention and processing. NSF does not control deletion of provider logs.

On iPhone and iPad, Apple handles App Store trial activation, payments, purchase restoration, and offer-code redemption under its own privacy policy. Skopos uses StoreKit to check signed purchase information on your device. NSF does not receive your Apple Account password or payment-card details.

Local storage and backup

Skopos keeps settings, applicable viewing preferences, cached data, and reminder scheduling information on your device. Diagnostic information supports troubleshooting and is not automatically sent to an NSF server. If you copy or share it, the destination you choose receives it. Diagnostic details can contain information about requests; review them before sharing.

Apple/iCloud or Android backup and device-transfer services may copy eligible app data according to your device settings and provider. Reinstalling or moving phones can restore that data. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes local app data but does not necessarily delete backup copies or third-party logs. Manage those copies with the relevant provider.

Notifications and calendar

Enabled reminder categories schedule local notifications for supported events. Frequency depends on your selections and upcoming events. The information used for reminders can come from the external services above. Your operating system controls delivery. Disable categories in Skopos or revoke notification permission in device settings. Calendar actions you choose are handled by your calendar app and its synchronization settings. On iPhone and iPad, Skopos presents the system calendar event editor for an event you choose to add; it does not read your calendar.

Support and optional contributions

If you email us, we receive your email address and the message, diagnostics, or attachments you send. We use them to respond and investigate problems. Avoid sending unrelated personal information or location details you do not want to share. You may request deletion at [email protected]. Support correspondence is retained for handling your request and any applicable recordkeeping obligations; ask us about the information retained for your request.

The optional contribution link opens Buy Me a Coffee, which handles information entered on its website. A contribution does not purchase a Skopos feature or permanent unlock.

Trial and purchases

On iPhone and iPad, you can choose to activate a free 30-day trial through the App Store. The trial lasts 720 hours from the original Apple trial transaction date. It does not renew or automatically charge you. Full access after the trial requires a one-time lifetime unlock, priced at US $9.99 in the U.S. storefront; local prices and taxes are shown by Apple before purchase. An eligible Apple offer code may grant the same unlock for free.

Apple maintains the trial and purchase history associated with your Apple Account. Skopos reads Apple-verified product ownership and transaction dates to determine access, restore purchases, and respond to refunds or revocations. StoreKit keeps transaction information on the device; Skopos also stores a last-observed trial time to limit clock rollback. Reinstalling does not create a new Apple trial. Restore Purchases checks purchases for your Apple Account. No Skopos account or NSF purchase-verification server is used, and Skopos does not send purchase records to an NSF server.

The current Android testing edition instead uses a device-local 720-hour trial. Google Play purchasing and restoration are not enabled in that edition. Backup may preserve its trial data; clearing Android app data or reinstalling may restart that local trial.

When a trial expires without a lifetime unlock, feature access and new feature reminders pause. Settings, privacy information, and support remain available, and saved data are preserved.

Your choices and children

Change location, camera, and notification permissions in device settings. You can clear local app storage, manage backups, and contact [email protected] about privacy. There is no Skopos account to delete. Skopos is not directed to children under 13. Contact us about concerns involving information submitted by a child.

Policy changes

We will update this policy and its effective date when relevant practices change. The app's disclosures and applicable App Store privacy or Google Play Data safety answers must describe those same practices. Platform-specific features above apply only to the edition in use.
